I Will Fly Away was created by layering words from the hymn I'll Fly Away over an original photograph of the statue Gloria Victis in Salisbury, North Carolina. 

Gloria Victis is a monument to the Confederate solders who died during the Civil War and translates as "glory to the defeated." 

While the statue has had its share of controversy in recent years, it stands as a reminder that the condition of our soul determines where we will spend eternity.
